A blog about condensed matter and nanoscale physics. Why should high energy and astro folks have all the fun?

Ahh, Texas, again.
Stories like this one depress me. Is it really any wonder that our state has a difficult time attracting large high-tech companies from, e.g., California and Illinois, even though corporate taxation policies are very friendly here?
Yes, stories like this make me think twice about applying for jobs in Texas. At one point you wrote about how you had never been there until you interviewed (that was you, right?) and you were glad you ended up there. But it's one of those things, the devil you know, I guess. There are plenty of republiscum where I live now, but I didn't know that when I moved here, and it mostly doesn't bother me because the religious types aren't so influential as they are in some other places.
It's things like this that give me pause about applying via shotgun approach, rather than carefully targeting places where I could make a good case to make mrphd follow me.
